The Palavela was built in 1961 for the "Italia ¡Æ61" Exhibition celebrating the first United Italy centennial and later used as a multi-purpose event hall. In 2003, the building was completely renovated by world-renowned architect Gae Aulenti as a ¡Èbuilding within a building¡É, leaving the remaining pillarless reinforced concrete roof structurally intact, and will serve as the venue for figure skating and short track during the 2006 games.
The indoor temperature of the building is maintained at 12-13℃, while the ice is kept between -6 and -8℃. The building has a seating capacity of 8,250. |
