Downtown
The contrast between the beautiful ocean and modern buildings along the creek is impressive in Dubai. The creek divides the city into Deira and Bur Dubai, the areas where the major tourist spots are concentrated. Suburban Jumeirah along the scenic coastline of the Arabian Gulf is a resort area rich with luxury hotels. The downtown area is relatively small and easy to stroll around. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from one side to the other. It may also be a good idea to visit one of the tourist information offices located at six major points in the city, where tourist brochures in Japanese are available.
Dubai Museum
Dubai Museum, opposite the Ruler's Court, is the oldest museum in Dubai. It was originally built in 1761 and then later extended into the current fort-like shape. It contains spacious palm houses, ornaments, tools used for pearl farming, as well as items that have been unearthed in various parts of Dubai between 5000BC and 800AD. Visitors can also learn about the rapid growth of Dubai by watching a visual summary of Dubai's history shown on the large screen in the basement.

It is also illuminated at night creating a fantastic atmosphere. While non-Muslims are not usually allowed in mosques, it is possible to take a tour inside this mosque on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and explanations on Islamic religion and services are given to deepen the visitors' understanding. Both male and female visitors must wear long-sleeve tops and long pants in the mosque. Women must wear scarves or other items to cover their hair.
