An academic
town located 50 km northwest of Denver,
Boulder is the birthplace of the ∩LOHAS∩
(Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability)
concept, and is renowned for high altitude
athlete training.
With an elevation of 1,627
meters above sea level similar to that
of Denver, training at high altitude with
thin air elevates cardiopulmonary function
for athletes who train here with great
results.
Although Boulder has become a
haven for high altitude training, no special
training facility for athletes is located
here. |

Each athlete simply
goes on his or her own way in the middle of
the great outdoors among mountains, valleys,
creeks, etc. that offer an ever-changing scenery.
Numerous trails and cycling routes are also well maintained and open to the general
public for hiking and jogging. |
Boulder's small
downtown area is a recommended starting point
for sightseeing in the area and the city
features a well-developed public bus transit
system for tourists without a car.
Campus
tours of the University of Colorado can be
arranged by using one of the downtown services.
Beyond
downtown, the area is lined with trails offering
the fragrant scent of grasses and flowers,
the feel of the earth under your feet and
the murmur of streams without compromising
the beautiful scenery.
More than anything
though, the low-humidity air here is extremely
pleasant and comfortable, making it no wonder
why so many athletes love the city. |

red-bricked street located in downtown Boulder
features fashionable shops and restaurants
with decorative objects, street performers
and artists emanating a free-spirited atmosphere. |
| University of Colorado at Boulder |
With close
to 130 years of history since its establishment
in 1876, the spacious campus of UC Boulder
holds about 25,000 students, including
many international students.
Distinguished
for its aerospace engineering department,
the school produced 15 astronauts so far. |
| National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) |
Boulder is well
known for its many research and development
facilities run by governmental agencies and
large corporations.
As one of these facilities,
the NCAR is dedicated to understanding the
atmosphere and the interconnected processes
that make up the Earth's ecosystems in collaboration
with 60 some universities throughout the
USA.
Familiar research topics include the
effects of global warming and related exhibitions. |
