Chocolate
Belgium offers so many varieties of chocolate in abundance that it could easily be described as nation of chocolate. Godiva, a brand well known even in Japan and Galler, the historic brand designated by the Belgian royal family, hail from Belgium. Relatively inexpensive and well-known brands of chocolate make for great souvenirs. Belgian chocolates use cocoa beans and sugar of good quality and feature a velvety and smooth melting texture due to their distinctively fine crushing of cocoa beans.
The Chocolate Museum

Highly recommended for chocolate lovers, this museum is located in Sint-Jansplein, about 100 km away and a 1-hr train ride from Brussels. One step inside the museum and you∏ll be surrounded by a sweet world of chocolate. Documents, pictures and the history of chocolate are on display, with sample tastings of velvety and melt-in-your-mouth chocolate for blissful moments all around. The museum also has cacao trees inside and chocolate manufacturing tours are available for children to enjoy. Eat, watch and enjoy to your heart∏s content in this delicious museum.

Waffles

Belgium is the home of waffles, the baked goods well known in Japan. The city features plenty of great waffle shops for you to easily find your favorite. With a plethora of street based waffle vendors, exploring the city while sampling the food is also recommended.

Two types of waffles are available - Liege waffles and Brussels or Belgian waffles. What are referred to in Japan as ∪Belgian waffles∩ are in actuality Liege waffles, which are crispier, served in a round shape, contain coarse-textured sugar and are moderately sweet. Brussels waffles refer to waffles that are soft and only lightly sugared. Topped with whipped cream, ice cream, syrups, chocolate and more, they∏re out of this world.

DANDOY
For those having difficulty in deciding on a waffle shop, Dandoy, established in 1829, is recommended with both the headquarters and branches located in central Brussels. Not conspicuous but highly regarded by the true connoisseur. Serves as a decent starting point to explore the world of waffles.
