| This park was built for the 1880 World Expo marking the 50th anniversary of Belgium's independence from the Netherlands. The roughly ∪diamond shaped∩ park is dominated by the Cinquantenaire Arch (a triple arch) in the middle, houses three museums and forms a verdant backdrop to soothe the mind and body. The structure rears 148 feet high and 98 feet wide and is topped by a bronze chariot being ridden by the female personification of a triumphant Belgium, arms up in the air holding a national flag. At the base of the columns lie the bronze statues of great Belgians representing each state. |
