Binnenhof (parliament house)
|
| The Binnenhof plays the central role in the politics of the Netherlands, and the area is lined with buildings built between the 13th to 17th centuries. The oldest of these buildings is the parliament house, known as “Ridderzaal” (Knights’s Hall). Rising at the center of the square, this church-like brick building was built in 1280 by Count Floris V. |

Peace Palace
|
| The Peace Palace is an international court of justice built in 1913 by the American steel king Andrew Carnegie. It is currently under the control of the United Nations and works for solutions to international disputes. As can be seen from its name, it is a magnificent palace-like building. All the interior furnishings and building materials were contributed from countries all around the world, including a nishijin-brocade wall hanging presented from Japan. |

Queen’s Birthday

| The entire nation is dyed in orange, the color of the Dutch Royal Family. Since citizens are allowed to sell anything in the street in Amsterdam on this day, the entire city becomes a bustling flea market. |
